From the Principal's Pen
It was great to meet new parents and familiar parents at our Meet the Teacher event last week. We hope you left informed and positive about the year ahead. We are certainly excited about the opportunities we can offer.
Our website is upgraded to provide much more information about the learning. We have included blogs for each learning zone which include information and links for classroom learning, homework and permission forms.
Sadly, our picnic was cancelled due to the weather conditions on the day so we are having a picnic day at school tomorrow, starting at 10.30am. We hope lots of you can come and join the fun.
This year, we are happy to continue with the primary project. We have two university students who come to school one day a week to run lunchtime games and activities for students. Students love the music and 'vibe' they bring to our programme. Jono and Jaz are great role models and provide lots of fun for students.

Constable Bryan
I am ‘Constable Bryan’ Ward, the new school community officer for your child’s school. I have been in the police for over 20 years and worked in Counties Manukau for 18 years before moving to the Rodney area as a frontline police officer. I look forward to working with you and your child’s school so that we can all ‘be safe and feel safe’ in our community.
One of the biggest queries Police often receive about schools is the safety of the roads near schools. You can assist us all in making schools safer by just remembering to do these simple things everyday going to or from school with your kids.
If alighting from a motor vehicle then make sure your child/children get out on the footpath side of the road and ask them to stay in the car until you open their door for them.
Try your best to hold your child’s hand near the roadside if they are young or not confident near the road.
Don’t double park your vehicle, park it on broken yellow lines or block driveways with your vehicle when picking up or dropping off your kids …it creates congestion and makes the road more dangerous for other kids, motorists and pedestrians.
Recent events in the media have stressed ‘stranger danger’ in their headlines. While it is important that all kids know about stranger danger and not approaching vehicles or persons that are unfamiliar to them. Don’t lose sight of the fact that most people who offend against children are known to them, so please don’t underestimate the importance of your children being able to discuss all matters to you without embarrassment or fear.
Until next time, stay safe and look after one another !
LEGO, Bryan and Bobby and Upstart magazine have a great competition where you could win the ENTIRE LEGO City Police Range and a visit from Constable Bryan and Bobby from the NZ Police to your classroom.
4 Lucky runners up will receive 2 LEGO City sets which include a Chase McCain minifigure!
