This is my seventh year at Dairy Flat School. In this time I have been working with children in Years 4, 5 and 6. Until recently, I facilitated the Cool Schools programme for four years and really enjoyed working with Year 6, 7 and 8 children to encourage their leadership skills to emerge.

I have a Bachelor of Education degree from Auckland University. I have also recently completed further study and gained a National Certificate in Maori Studies.

I have a special interest in Mathematics and the use of Information Techology (IT) as a tool for teaching and learning. I enjoy sharing my appreciation of music with my students, and integrating their interests into the classroom programme wherever possible.

I live in Stanmore Bay with my husband, two children, dog, cat, budgie and chickens. My ten year old daughter has been at Dairy Flat School since she was a new entrant and has thrived on the fantastic sporting and learning opportunities offered at our school over that time.

In Room 1 this week we have been talking and writing about the bell. The reason for this is that we have just had an automatic bell put in and it sounds different to the old one. It is a perfect chance for us to practice our language skills and learn how to use interesting verbs in our writing.
Eg. Our new bell went at 8.55am.

Our 'big question' for our Inquiry study for the PastaChef and Pizza Guy task was: 'What do we need to do to WIN this challenge?'  The answers to that question guided our learning and the results were quite outstanding! A tasty day had by all.

Watch this space for some writing samples from the children about the experience!
